- Your objective is priority. You have to figure out what you want to achieve, and then look at the social media solution, to see what is the best solution for that.
- Social media is the fundamental in the way, how people talk to each other.
- People trust peer recommendation, and what people’s talking instead of trusting advertisement.
FOUR NEW SOCIAL MEDIA TRENDS
1. Real Time Plus Mobile Devices
- Technology that allows anyone to share and search for information in real time and from anywhere has fundamentally and irrevocably changed the way we get information
- We access information much quicker and accurate than reporter’s news online. ie (Twitter about the fire)
- It’s like traditional word of mouth.
- Nearly 1 third of Canadian own a smartphone
- In March 2011, smartphone penetration hit 32.8% in Canada, slightingly higher than the U.S.

2. Location Based Services And Geotagging
- Increase in GPS-enabled smartphone penetration is a driving force behind the rise in popularity of LBS and you would not exist without this technology.
- Instead of telling your friends where you are via as status undated. FourSquares work by “checking to locations” from your phone
- Social Gaming aspects
- Option to leave tips for location. Ie, Try the fish and chips they are amazing, such as restaurants.
- Business seeing the values and partnering with foursquare to provide special discounts for mayors
- Get points for checking in to different locations, can unlock badges, and even be named “mayor” if you’ve checked into a location more than that
- There’s now 15 million users on foursquare
- When I did this chat in March 2010, this number is 1 million.
- Twitter 2 years to hit 1 million users. It took foursquare half this time
- In order to attract users, sites need to offer way for members to restrict the info about them that get shared with a wide publiC. But if a site allows members to keep too much of there information private, there will be less traffic can be turn into profits.
- Twitter is one of the least private networks.
- You can read anyone’s’ tweets, whether you are following them or not
- Tweets are even indexed on goggles
- “Please rob me” – listing all those empty homes out there. It’s like for sharing information to raise awareness of privacy issues.
4. Social Media Gets Less Social
- It’s more like a trend
- If the 1st and 2nd generation of social networking portals were about opening up the world, the third generation is about closing it again
- As mass networking like Twitter and Facebook fill up with noise, users are looking for ways to cut through the clutter
- With groups, lists and niche networks coming more popular mass networks could begin to feel more “exclusive”
- People are beginning to seek out exclusive, niche networks. Invariant only sisters are popping up everywhere, creating exclusive, gated virtual community that shut out the “mass”
- Gaining entry into this new generation of private online world can involved an intimidating process of review, such as career-oriented sites bluechipexperts.com and doostag.com, were aspiring member must submit their resumes to be consider for acceptance.
- People get overwhelmed that starts to initiate tools to control the things they don’t care about
“Social Suicide" – if you enter all the social media contact such as Facebook, and twitters, then it will help you to delete all of your privacy account.
Advertising Fee: Facebook is cheaper than print advertisement, but it’s more depending on the objectives. People consumes more digitally than print. At the end, it is all depending on the preferences of the person.
